|Carlo MacDonald is president and chief executive officer of one of the leading network integrator and application development firms in the Gulf South, CamSoft Data Systems, Inc., the Microsoft Partner unit of Exigo Technology Holdings. He is responsible for all aspects of operations, including sales, marketing, operations and is the Chief Technologist. He founded the company in July of 1992.
CamSoft has successfully converted from a break fix and project based IT consulting firm to a full Managed Services company providing customers a fixed fee product for all their technology needs. CamSoft ION, the companies managed service product provides customers with top of the line 24/7 network management, monitoring, and remote and onsite support.
In 2002, Mr. MacDonald founded Verge Wireless, a municipal broadband provider and consulting firm helping cities build their broadband initiatives using new technology from leading wireless mesh equipment provider TROPOS. He sold the company in 2005 to US Wireless Online, a publicly traded company, where he became acting Regional Manager for the southern region, which included Air2Lan based Jackson Mississippi, one of the largest WISPs in the South, with networks in 5 states.
In 2006, he started a new wireless company, JoVoGo Communications, which focuses on municipal, hotel, and multi-tenant wireless networking and managed services. Customers include the City of Los Angeles, where they manage the cities Wi-Fi network for the CRA, and numerous franchise hotels for brands such as Hilton and Holiday Inn. JoVoGo continues to be the wireless services company arm of CamSoft and Exigo Technology Holdings.
Mr. MacDonald took a leading role in building wireless hot zones by successfully deploying one of the country's first citywide, free Wi-Fi hot zones that uses mesh networking technology in 2003. He continues to expand the role of hot zones in cities and towns by merging wireless technologies and applications services. In addition to his role at JoVoGo, he was appointed by the Governor of Louisiana to the Louisiana Broadband Council to assist in finding broadband solutions for the states rural areas. Exigo's New Orleans office housing both CamSoft and US Wireless employees was wiped out by Hurricane Katrina, and US Wireless, under MacDonald's supervision was on the front lines in providing emergency Wi-Fi for the area. He continues to be active in government affairs regarding technology and sits on the board of various nonprofit organizations.
Mr. MacDonald started his career in 1987 as lead application developer at Cherbonnier, Mayer, and Associates, an IBM business partner in Baton Rouge. He helped develop an accounting software product for IBM's "Plug n Go" AS400 initiative, before starting CamSoft to focus on Windows development.
Mr. MacDonald's achievements have been recognized by several prestigious organizations and news agencies, including Wireless Week, Red Herring, Broadband Wireless, Unstrung, Government Technology and Baton Rouge Business Report, which listed him one of the top “40 under 40". He has spoke at numerous conferences including, Wi-Fi Planet, Muniwireless, and California Redevelopment Associations yearly conference on municipal wireless.
An expert in developing online real estate through his Internet Real Estate company DotCom Promotions, Inc., Mr. MacDonald's DCP helps firms develop online assets.
He has spoken at various real estate technology conferences on Internet Data Exchange (IDX) and online marketing initiatives, including Leading Real Estate Companies of the World and Louisiana Realtors Association annual conferences.
Mr. MacDonald was a founding member the New Orleans YEO (EO) Young Entrepreneurs Organization of New Orleans and has been past president and board member. He continues to be an active member.
Mr. MacDonald is a seasoned technology executive with experience and understanding in all key networking and application development technologies. He continues to help his customers, companies, and teams create, support, and execute strategic technology initiatives.
